Summer String Band - 10 week session $250

Summer 2026
A 10 week session of summer string band will be offered on Tuesday evenings at 6PM. Located at BCC 800 Purchase St , New Bedford held in the Community Room downstairs. The class will be billed at $250 upon signing up for the session
Dates are :
June 23rd & 30th
July 7th, 14th & 28th
August 11th, 18th & 25th
September 8th & 15th

Play as a big fun social group, learn new tunes and techniques. Get jam ready on fiddle, banjo, mando, guitar, or bass. In the analog we make a big sound. We build the elements needed to play jam ready songs. Kicks, tags, walks, tip offs… we’ll cover all of that. We play follow the leader, just like any tight group does in any playing setting. And, we learn the ways our instruments communicate in a group setting. In person as well as a digital options available.

Summer Session

$200 per 8 week session

Learn to play not one, but several different instruments! And that would be cool enough, but there’s so much more. This is the bridge program between my Play Party class and the Growing Tradition class, and as such it has all of the same super fun elements of both. Traditional dancing, singing, hambone body percussion, songwriting… we do them all! And this session we’re adding in a brand new visual art element too. All students will be making moving panoramas that play like an old fashioned movie tell the story of a tune they love.

I’ve been taking music classes and private lessons with Jeff for the past 5 years . I find that no matter the material , he is extremely knowledgeable and able to adapt on the fly .

Jeff poses what most people in today’s world seem to be missing ; kindness , patience and empathy . Especially with the youth classes . He relates with the kids on a their level .

I highly recommend Jeff and Southcoast lessons whether you are an experienced player wanting to try something new , a beginner or looking for your child to start their musical journey .

Jeff is a wonderful instructor who teaches students at different levels on different instruments and as an individual I always get what I need from each class. I really enjoy learning the history of music as well as the tune itself. Great community within the class.

Jeff is an awesome teacher! He took me from knowing nothing on the mandolin, to learning many songs and how to pick them up quickly, to playing publicly in sessions around New Bedford with many other musicians. I didn't think that was possible as a middle-aged parent and always felt I'd missed the bandwagon of being a string musician, always a little jealous of people freely playing socially. Can't recommend Jeff enough as a patient teacher having developed a social, nurturing environment for people to collectively make mistakes along the way to having a lot of fun. I've seen many older people pick up many instruments with him from zero knowledge, including the scary ones, like violin. Have fun - try his lessons -
